Vår Starbo is a Norwegian architect, interior designer, and business economist, and founded Vaar Studio whilst residing on her sailboat in Copenhagen in 2019.
She specialized in Fine Arts at Oslo By Steinerskole, studied French in Paris, and later completed a semester of Law at the University of Oslo, before transitioning into design. She studied Interior Design in Florence, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Oxford School of Architecture and a Master’s in Political Architecture and Critical Sustainability from the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen. She also holds a degree in Sustainable Business Management from NMBU. She fell in love with Indonesia after learning about bamboo construction in Bali with BambooU in 2022 and 2023.
Before founding Vaar Studio, she worked at Dark Arkitekter, OsloTre, and Norconsult, focusing on wood architecture, sustainability, and urban design.
Beyond her work, she has a passion for sailing around the world, flying propeller airplanes in Northern Norway, teaching aerial yoga, and most recently designing jewelry for Haych Jewelry in Bali.
Vaar Studio was established to create cohesive, enduring spaces that balance aesthetics and functionality strongly rooted in a sense of identity and place.
